Japan Safety

Japan can be catalogued as a safe country in the world, however at times many Japanese do not speak English, almost all people are extraordinarily hospitable and will go out of their way to help travellers find their way around, and make the most out of their trip to Japan. The current crime rate is very low in Japan, and is not something that should refer travellers to the country. Obviously, the common sense should be used around the world, but it is infrequent for travellers to feel anything but safe in this beautiful country.

As for those bugs and plagues that are a little difficult to detect, then you should assure that no inoculations are essential to enter Japan from anywhere in the world. The water from tap is safe to drink anywhere in Japan, but bottled water and mineral water is also readily accessible.

If something unexpected does happen to you during your travel, the hospitals and medical facilities are between the best around the world, but we all the time recommend you to be sure your travel insurance is convenient and valid.

Japan's police are an independent body of the political under the general supervision of an autonomous agency, the National Police Agency, and free of direct central government executive control. They are administered by an independent judiciary and monitored by a free and active press. The police are usually well respected and can rely on considerable public cooperation in their work.

The emergency number is NOT the popular number 9-1-1; it is only in North America. It's the REVERSE number: 1-1-9. It is a mnemonic number and easy for remembering, you're on the other side of the world, so the emergency number is reversed.

Nevertheless: This number is only established for fire and ambulance services. The number of the Police is 110. Something better, to call the English-speaking police hot-line, the number is (Tokyo area code) 03-3501-0110. Not an easy number to remember, surely. Like an advice, keep this number in your telephone.
