Explore Kamakura![]() Kamakura Daibutsu This huge statue has as main characteristics a height of 14 meters, including its pedestal, and weight of 121 tonnes, and was made in base of the Todai-ji Buddha, located in Nara and the largest Buddha statue in Japan. The statue is made of bronze but has a greenish color. ![]() Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine The main Shinto shrine in Kamakura, was constructed by the first shogun of the Kamakura period, Yoritomo Minamoto, the total area is approximately of 80,000 square meters, a well known symbol of Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu is the large ginkgo tree located there. ![]() Enoshima This beautiful island is outside Kamakura city, the Botanical Garden receives many visitors each year and the beach is amazing, Enoshima city is very modern and the Enoshima Shrine has a statue of Benzaiten, the goddess of music and entertainment. ![]() Wakamiya-oji Wakamiya-oji is one of the most important and more congestionated streets in Kamakura, the reason is the presence of many stores and restaurants, has an important role in the city and was constructed by Minamoto Yoritomo. ![]() Zeniarai Benten The oficial name is Zeniarai Ugafuku Jinja, was constructed by Minamoto Yoritomo, has a curious tradition, people use to wash their money here, believing it will duplicate, the Shrine is dedicated to Benten, a Buddhist goddess. « Kamakura Temples |
