Nanzenji Temple

Nanzenji, founded in 1291, is the Southern Zen Temple and was the first Zen monastery established by a member of the imperial family. Played an important role in the rise of Zen Buddhism in Kyoto and is one of the most important japanese Zen Temples.

Sanjusangendo

Sanjusangendo Hall was founded in 1164 as a Rengeoin Temple, has more than a thousand wooden life-size statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. No photograps or videos allowed. Located 20 minutes away from Kyoto Station.

Kiyomizu Temple

Also known as Kiyomizudera, was built in 798 and reconstructed in 1633, is located in Mount Otowa and has great views from its main hall, its name name means "Pure Water Temple", it's said the water of this temple makes miracles. Was declared an UNESCO world heritage site in 1994.

Kodaiji Temple

Kodaiji Temple is situated in Higashiyama district and was built in 1606 in honor to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Has a special decoration with pictures of Kano school and in certain times of year there are Zen style illumination shows here.

Ginkakuji

Also known as the Temple of the Silver Pavilion, was built in 1482 and is considered one of the most amazing constructions in Kyoto, lies at the northeast part of the city and the idea was to cover all the temple with silver but it was not done, the main icons are a statue of Kannon and other of Buddha.
