The City of Kyoto
It will take a while before you get to know this city, many touristic destinations such as temples, shrines, museums, gardens, all of these will
leave you exhausted, but lets begin somewhere, if you are in the center of the city you'll see big modern buildings and a cosmopolitan place, not
very traditional by the way, but if you take a walk you'll notice that Kyoto is a perfect combination of tradition and modernity.
Sometime all the japanese power was concentrated here, as the Emperor's residence Kyoto was the main city in all the country until Tokyo became
the new capital city. Is for this reason Kyoto has became a well preserved city to maintain its reputation of being one of the most beautiful cities
in Japan, if you have time please visit the central sights as Nijo-jo, a 17th century palace, Shugaku-in Rikyu, a impresionant villa, or the
gardens of Saiho-ji, and if you want to buy some traditional crafts go to the Kyoto's old markets situated in the district of Shijo-dori.
Some of the temples you can visit in this city are Kiyomizu Temple, Kinkakuji Temple, Ginkakuji Temple, Byodoin Temple, Chionin Temple and Kegonji
Temple and the shrines you'll better visit are Heian Jingu Shrine, Yasaka Shrine, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kamigamo Shrine and Shimogamo Shrine.
Kyoto receives more than ten million visitors each year, and has many reasons for that, the only city that was not attacked by the bombing in
World War II, the atmosphere in Kyoto is very traditional and peaceful. If you decide to go to Kyoto try to go in spring or autumn, the best time
to visit the city.
