In Japan people enjoy all kinds of sports. They practice traditional sports like martial arts, judo, karate, kendo, aikido and sumo.  The traditional sport in the country is the sumo; it is considered as a national sport.

Other sports that are most commonly practiced in Japan are football and baseball. Japan also has athletics, boxing, golf, ski, tennis and motor sports, auto racing, sports car racing, formula racing and many more.

Most Japanese children play various kinds of sports through clubs, in school or near to where they live. Baseball and soccer are two of the most popular sports among boys, while many girls tend to play sports like tennis and volleyball. Swimming is more popular with both boys and girls.

During summer, many Japanese people travel to the coast for surfing and diving, and when it is winter, they practice other popular sports such as snowboarding and skiing.


BaseballBaseball
Baseball is the most popular team sport in Japan. It is practiced during the spring and summer. Yakyu means baseball in Japanese. It was introduced by American professors in Japan in 1872. The baseball tournaments are broadcasted on television. Japanese people are baseball lovers.


SumoSumo
Sumo is a competitive sport. It is the national sport of Japan. Here are some basic rules of sumo: The first to touch the floor or the first to leave the ring loses. The wrestlers are trained hard; they eat large quantities of food to gain muscle mass.




SoccerSoccer
Football has become the most popular professional sport of Japan; children are fans of this sport.





AikidoAikido
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that is founded by Morihei Ueshiba as an amalgamation of his martial arts studies, philosophy and religious beliefs.
Aikido is not an end but a way of life to overcome; it aims to go beyond the physical plane to reach the global scope of human personality in its three essential aspects: body, technique and spirit.


JudoJudo
Judo meaning gentle way is a modern martial art. It was founded by Kano Jigoro in 1882. Its most outstanding feature is the fact that the objective is to immobilize the opponent.




KarateKarate
Karate is a martial art where people strike with their fists, elbows and feet as part of a defensive action.





KendoKendo
The kendo “way of the sword” derives from the kenjutsu, an ancient Japanese martial art. It is a form of modern fencing that still keeps many traditional values and the codes of samurai. The shinai is a bamboo sword that is used to play Kendo.

Skiing and snowboarding are very popular sports in Japan, and there are many snow resorts that you can visit. The most famous ski resorts are located in regions of Tohoku, Chubu and Hokkaido.

Ski season lasts longer in Japan. You have more time to plan your holidays. Japan offers the best tracks for  skiing; Japan is  really an excellent destination to spend your vacation.

Japan was hit by an earthquake and tsunami in 2011 that caused many disasters in their ports and major economic losses. Boats, yachts, marinas, buildings were hit by the earthquake and tsunami.

So far, some ports are functioning normally, but some are being repaired. It is a regrettable incident.
