Bars and Nightlife

If you have eaten too much maybe you will wish to relieve with a drink, or simply you want to have a relaxing moment. There are all varieties of drinking chances ranging from yatai (street stalls) and chain izakaya to high-class hostess bars, that cost the salary of a month for a single drink, and everything in between.

You can enjoy live music like rock or jazz while sipping a whisky or relax in a top-floor hotel bar lingering over a cocktail and the harbor lights. Several beer halls are located in shopping malls and beer gardens on rooftops, as well as laid-back cocktail bars where the conversation centers on literature. And, there are wild, loud joints that serve as pick-up points for the young adult crowd.

Some bars in Yokohama:
  • 1890 Saloon CABLE CAR, Yamashitacho 200 Naka-ku, Yokohama, 231-0023. Phone: +81-(0)45-662-5303.
Description: 1890 Saloon CABLE CAR does a pretty good job of recreating the mood of the American West at the end of the 19th century, at least in decor. Its food and drink are a lot more modern and taste.

  • Actor & Actress, 210 Yamashitacho Naka-ku. Phone: +81-(0)45-662-0909.
Description: Actor & Actress is a great place to take a date when you want to create an impression of knowing where the chic of Yokohama while away their time.

  • Bar Great Harry, 214 Yamashitacho Naka-ku. Phone: +81-(0)45-661-0243.
Description: One of the major features of Bar GREAT HARRY is the cocktail-mixing competition that the staff competes in every night.

  • Blue Bell, Yokohama Royal Park Hotel Nikko 1F 2-2-1 Minato Mirai, Nishi-ku. Phone: +81-045-221-1111.
Description: If you are a big fan of James Ivory and looking to do teatime in style, then come on in and stumble over the plush and aptly stodgy furniture of Blue Bell.

  • Braustuberl, Shinkocho 11 Banchi Yokohama World Portals 5 F Naka-ku. Phone: +81-045-222-2108.
Description: This is an authentic German beer hall, which serves up homemade German-style beer. Try your luck with a nice pilsner or increase your iron intake with a nice 'dunkel' dark brew.

  • Cafe Cabanon, 2-3-2 Minato Mirai Nishi-ku. Phone: +81-(0)45-682-2570.
Description: This is a quiet little cafe that serves light meals and desserts. They leave foreign books and magazines.

  • Cake Mania, Shinkocho 11 Banchi,Yokohama World Portals 1F Nishi-ku. Phone: +81-(0)45-222-2155.
Description: The owners of this shop certainly do have cake mania. The word 'mania' in Japan basically means freak - but in a good way.

  • Chigusa, 1-23 Notemachi Naka-ku. Phone: +81-(0)45-241-7301.
Description: Chigusa is an example of one of Japan's more eccentric cafe genres; jazz bars like this one have popped up to fill a need for music lovers.
