City of Takamatsu

Located on the Shikoku island of Japan, the city of Takamatsu is the capital of the Kagawa prefecture. Takamatsu faces the Inland sea instead of the Pacific Ocean. A democratic and official status was granted to Takamatsu within Japan's administration only in the year of 1890, on the 15 Th of February. The city of Takamatsu spreads over a total area of 375.05 kilometer square presently and this massive area is due to the expansion in its original boundaries made by the government.

Takamatsu was previously known as Sanuki in feudal period, and so was the province now encompassing Kagawa prefecture.

Sanuki was established in the end of 16th century as a castle town. The Ikumo clan was based as the first lords under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but was changed by Matsudaira Yorishige under the Tokugawa rule. Eleven successive Matsudaira lords ruled over the city for 228 years, until the Meiji Restoration.

Takamatsu also has been serving as the primary point of connection between the 2 islands of Honshu and Shikoku. The industry of this place is quite stable and is dependent on industries like machinery, lacquer ware, food and paper products.
